In general, hypoglycemia has been defined as a blood glucose (sugar) level less than 70 (some medical centers define it as less than 60). There may or may not be accompanying symptoms; in fact, studies have shown that after years of diabetes, FREQUENT episodes of hypoglycemia may cause "hypoglycemia unawareness", or the inability to feel when the blood glucose is at low levels.
